The Rhino Takedown with Wet Pocket, Freemans Dead, Poetic S, & Wacko
A crowd of metal enthusiasts and rising rock ‘n’ roll stars Wet Pocket, Freemans Dead, Poetic S, and Wacko gathered to thrash Wednesday evening at 4th Street Vine to uplift a member of the community with a disability.
The band commemorated and celebrated fellow Long Beach resident Manny’s 22nd birthday.
“Manny is a special needs student,” said Lorenzo Kassel, band member of Freemans Dead. “My friend Zaine [of Wacko] that played, hosted a birthday show for him.”
The evening flowed with adults of all ages who bobbed their heads along to the deep vibration of heavy metal music. Members of the crowd celebrated Manny’s birthday by engaging in a mosh pit in the tiny venue.
“We have thrown two birthdays for him [Manny],” said Kassel. “He loves loud music, but isn’t able to go out often.”
Throughout the evening, the loud echoes of deep bass, random bursts of laughter and rapid guitar movement flooded the walls of the deep red ambient room.
Many of the band members expressed themselves freely through moshing.
Band members of Freemans Dead rocked around in overtly large crumbled plaster head casts.
They put on a show for the crowd by creating a dramatic scene by gyrating in explosive movements and colliding with one another to the banging of the drums.
4th Street Vine is a wine and craft beer bar specializing in art, music and fun.
Band members like Kassel expressed their will for the shows they play every week at 4th Street Vine.
The small gathering concluded around 10 p.m. with an afterglow of members of the audience relaxing with a small pint to recover from the adrenaline rush of the show.
“Inspiring others is what I live for,” said Kassel. “If I had a purpose on this earth it would definitely be to inspire people to exert their inner talents while creating a comfortable vibe for any type of person to come and have a good time with like-minded peeps.”
